Surrey Chapel is, logically enough, in Norwich (originally located in Surrey Street, you see!). Having spent the last seven years on the staff team here, I and the clan shall be heading East of Eden this summer to become pastor at this largish FIEC church (120+ members, 200+ on a Sunday).
Located on the North side on the City Centre, it draws people from a wide area including a number of international students. It has a history of strong Biblical ministry, but has been without a pastor for seven years. There is a great need and opportunity both in the Church and beyond in that area, and over the last year we have felt increasingly called towards it and excited by what the Lord might do there. Contrary to popular opinion, Norwich is no Land of Nod! It is thriving, cosmopolitan city, with a major university, teaching hospital and hi-tech industry - yet retains its particular charm as the major city of the area. The Church therefore has the scope for influence well beyond it's own four walls.
Please do be praying for us therefore, that the Lord will enable us to rise to this new challenge and empower us with all we need to be effective servants for him. And thank you again to all the folk at Eden who have loved us and supported us over the years - we have appreciated you so much, and will continue to do so in the future. We expect to be moving during August, with first Sunday "in charge" will be September 1st. We hope to see most of you at our farewell event at Balsham on Monday August 26th, and a good representation at my induction on October 12th!
